Jets legend Joe Namath ripped Geno Smith on Sunday for not re-entering the game after suffering a right knee injury.
Smith had even tweeted at Namath before knowing the extent of his injury: “Somebody tell Joe that the doctors have the final say on whether you can or cannot get back into the game……and also that I love him!”
Namath finally broke his silence Tuesday morning, apologzing — kind of.
“My bad Geno. In the dark ages we players had the say. I hope you heal and play as long as you choose! Joe,” he shared on Twitter.
Smith, who earned the starting job after Ryan Fitzpatrick struggled, was hurt just a quarter and a half into Sunday’s game. He came up limping after being sacked by Matthew Judon in the second quarter. Fitzpatrick replaced him.
Namath tweeted in reaction to Smith remainng out of the game: “If you’ve got a right knee injury keeping you out of the game why are you standing on the sideline the entire 2nd half? How bad can it be?”
Apparently, pretty bad.
