Jets QB Bryce Petty gets start vs. Rams with Fitzpatrick injured

It’s Bryce Petty Time.

Petty will be making his first career start against the Rams on Sunday, according to a source.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is dealing with a sprained MCL, took limited reps in practice all week. He is listed as active for Sunday’s game and will be Petty’s backup.

Petty competed two passes in four snaps in last week’s loss in Miami when Fitzpatrick suffered the injury.

Why 2nd-year QB Bryce Petty isn’t right for the Jets … yet

The second-year signal caller showed flashes in the preseason before injuring his shoulder in the preseason finale. He missed five weeks before fully returning to practice.

The 3-6 Jets will now evaluate Petty (and possibly rookie Christian Hackenberg) for the rest of the season before determining how to proceed at quarterback next year.

Hackenberg will be inactive Sunday despite the rookie being healthy.
