Jets coach Todd Bowles was hospitalized Friday afternoon and did not accompany the team to New England for its game against the Patriots Saturday.
The Jets announced that Bowles was receiving attention for an undisclosed illness and that he was in stable condition after feeling ill earlier on Friday.
Bowles’ status for Saturday’s game against New England is unclear, however the Jets (4-12) said that assistant head coach Mike Caldwell would coach the team if Bowles was unavailable. Caldwell ran the team through its walkthrough on Friday.
Jets GM Mike Maccagnan visited Bowles in the hospital Friday and has been in contact with him throughout the day.
Bowles wants to coach against the 12-2 Patriots in Foxborough, according to a source, but the decision ultimately lies in the hands of the doctors attending to the 53-year-old.
