20 years ago, Pudge nearly a Yankee

The Yankees held Old Timers’ Day on Sunday and Ivan Rodriguez was not there. His time with the Yankees amounted to 33 games in 2008. It could have been much more. Rodriguez almost became another Yankees legend with his own plaque in Monument Park next to fellow catchers Bill Dickey, Thurman Munson and Yogi Berra.

Five-run eighth pushes Padres past Tigers

Hector Sanchez had a two-run, pinch-hit homer as part of a five-run eighth inning as the Padres topped the the Tigers, who dropped their eighth straight game. Anibal Sanchez allowed one earned run over six innings and Andrew Romine knocked in two runs for the Tigers. Dinelson Lamet allowed two runs over six-plus innings for San Diego.
